‘You’ve goofed!” Nairobians tell Sonko on matatu ban

Irate Nairobians lashed out at Governor Mike Sonko on Monday morning as the effects of his CBD ban on matatus started to bite.

City residents camped on the governor’s Twitter page, questioning why the plan had to be implemented with no connecting buses to transport commuters from the gazetted termini to the city centre as earlier announced.

Morning commuters walked long distances from Ngara and Muthurwa termini into the CBD.

The angry reactions were in response to Governor Sonko’s tweet on his appearance before Senates Public Accounts and Investment committess on Monday morning.

Jared Maticha retorted; “You are messing our city.”

Geoffrey Mbugua commented; “You completely out of touch with the problems facing Nairobians today.”

Irene Kamso questioned; “Are u really fair to Wanjiku? Walking from muthurwa to bus station n buses charging 50/- to community.”

PHYSICALLY DRAINED

Faith Kamene Muema wrote; “Lift this ban it’s very unfair to the common Wanjiku in Nairobi no productivity will happen because it’s both physically and emotionally draining to the people.”

Kezz Gichuki stated; “Kenyans elected a leader who will get to his city hall office using a V8 and several escort cars. The same Kenyan will walk from Muthurwa to Fig tree in Ngara every day to get to his office in Westlands and walk back in the evening to his home in Eastlands… @MikeSonko.”

Dr Patrick Ajwang commented; “Mbuvi, this is not the way to decongest Nairobi. Can you imagine the valuable man hours employers will lose.”

Kip Junior added; “Go fix the public transport sector before posting such we ain’t interested.”

The governor had during his appearance before Senators apologized to commuters for the Monday morning inconvenience and said things will improve.

“But as you know, all good things are painful and the aim is not to punish the same people who voted for us…it’s a matter of time and things will improve,” said Sonko.
