A 23-year-old University of Nairobi student has pleaded guilty of being found in possession of bhang.

The prosecution told a Nairobi court that master Weisiko Sandole Peter was arrested on October 8 after a search was conducted in his room and the narcotics found stashed in a wardrobe.

Officers from the Central police station had initially received a report concerning the theft of a mobile phone which a complainant alleged may have been hidden in Sandole’s room.

After the report was made in the occurrence book, two police officers accompanied the complainant back to campus to conduct the search.

The complainant directed them to Mr Sandole’s room where the drugs were unearthed , prosecutor Celestine Aluoch told a trial court.

Although the stolen phone was not recovered, the new find formed the basis of the charge before court.

The 23 rolls of bhang have been impounded as exhibits in the case.

Chief magistrate Danile Ogembo has ordered the student back in custody pending a probation officer’s report next week before he is sentenced.

He faces a fine of not less than Sh 10,000 or a minimal jail term of three years.
