Yego slams ‘bogus’ and ‘ridiculous’ government over poor Rio preparations

A clique of Kenya’s senior athletes are enraged by the team’s preparations and planning ahead of the Rio Olympics.

The Olympic Games officially commenced on Friday night with an elaborate opening ceremony at the Maracana Stadium in Brazil’s Coastal City and Kenyans are eagerly awaiting to see their local stars dominate especially in the middle and long distance races.

All is, however, not so rosy in team Kenya’s camp.

This is after Julius Yego questioned the commitment of team Kenya’s management. The 27-year-old also hinted that someone could be trying to sabotage team Kenya’s chances at the Rio Games.

Yego, who is Africa’s and Commonwealth record holder in the Javelin throw, also sensationally branded the Ministry of Sports and NOCK officials as “bogus” and “ridiculous”.

He posted on social media: “Is someone really trying to sabotage the results of team Kenya at Rio!! Am (I’m reading mischief on how the management of the team is being run, (for instance) the sprinters left last Sunday and their coaches were left behind, very irresponsible and funny way till the 14th.

He continued: “I am leaving on Sunday and now my coach is being told he will arrive a day before I get to the field. Ridiculous. This issue arose in London during the (last Olympics) in 2012 with some officials arriving towards the closure of the games. I can’t imagine being alone without my coach. Can the Government rescue the “top of the world reputation” before it is too late? Bogus top management and pretence”.
