Yanga, Simba caught up in ‘witchcraft’ claims ahead of Dar derby
Tanzanian bitter rivals Simba and Yanga will clash in the Dar es Salaam football derby on Saturday amid the usual media hype, banter, drama and counter accusations of witchcraft.
Fans of Yanga have already cried foul over allegations of witchcraft by their opponents 24 hours to the match.
In a Facebook post on Friday, one Yanga fan claimed to have unearthed a number of “substances” reportedly planted by their opposing fans at the match venue.
According to the fan, the substances contain some supernatural powers, which are meant to help Simba, who are otherwise known as Msimbazi Street Boys, to win the match.
“They can use their supernatural powers, we will bank on God. We have to win the match,” the post reads in part.
Meanwhile, Simba fans are yet to respond to the claims.
BIGGEST MATCH
At the same time, all indications are that the 60,000 seater state-of-the-art match venue will be filled to the rafters for what is arguably the biggest football match in Tanzania.
With six matches played in the Tanzanian league, Simba, managed by Cameroon coach Joseph Omog, top the standings with 16 points wfrom a possible 18. Yanga are placed third on 12 points.
There will be no Kenyan interest in the game following the transfer of Harambee Stars striker Paul Kiongera from Simba to AFC Leopards in June.
Kenyan football lovers will however have a chance to watch Yanga upclose, during the forthcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup which will be held in Nairobi in November.
