For women, sex does get better with age – STUDY

The common assumption is that a woman’s sexuality is tied to her ticking biological clock. Turns out that this assumption couldn’t be further from the truth.

According to findings of an interesting new study, women do not lose interest in sex as they age. In fact, the opposite is true.

Middle aged women, the researchers found, enjoy love making much more than younger women in their twenties.

The study was carried out by researchers from the University Hospitals Cleveland medical Center in the US. The study entailed interviews of more than 500 women aged between 40 and 75. They were asked questions regarding changes in their sex lives because of age.

Women between the ages of 49 and 65 admitted that they were more sexually satisfied if they were in good physical form. Interestingly, none of the women said that their sex lives were made less vibrant by age.

SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS

All women, except those in their 70s, agreed that sex was important for a healthy general wellbeing. Women in the 40s were the ones most affected by their sexual concerns compared to the other women.

The researchers found that unlike their younger counterparts, older women have more confidence and skills to build sexual relationships. They also have better communication skills meaning they are better able to deal with problems in the bedroom.

Explaining these findings, Dr Sheryl Kingsberg, the study lead, says: “Although the women in this study felt that their sexual satisfaction could improve, the majority remained happy with the quality of their partnered relationships, demonstrating that sex could become less of a determinant of overall relationship satisfaction over time.”
