Women who have more sex have better memories – study

Findings of an interesting new study give yet another reason for women to pay attention to their sex lives.

Apparently, according to researchers from McGill University in Canada, having frequent penetrative sex can significantly improve the memory of young women.

For the study, the researchers looked into 78 heterosexual woman, all under the age of 30.

The aim of the study was to look at the effect, if any, of sex on memory performance. All the study subjects underwent a memory analysis and then filled out questionnaires on their lifestyles.

On analyzing the findings, the researchers noted that frequent sex resulted in new growth in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls emotions, memory and the nervous system.

Sex, which is a physical activity, stimulates this region through a mixture of increased blood flow, nerve signals and nerve growth. Women who have more sex thus remember words better.

What the study could not tell was whether or not having an orgasm has any effect on a woman’s memory.

Explaining these findings which have been published in the journal Archives of sexual behavior, Jens Pruessner, a psychology professor at McGill University says, “The chemicals involved in signaling reward to the brain hormones and neurotransmitters have been shown to be associated with both memory and sexual activity.”
