Woman on the run after stealing husband’s firearm

Police are searching for a woman believed to have stolen her husband’s firearm in Ngong on Wednesday morning.

The lady, Grace Mumbi, said to be a lecturer at the Kabianga University in Kericho, is suspected to have made away with the semi-automatic rifle loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.

Police records indicate that her husband, Julius Wainaina, is a licensed civilian firearm owner of the rifle with serial number 752021.

Nairobi County Police Commandant Benson Kibui said the lady’s phone has since been switched off.

“We are still looking for her and as soon as we have her we will begin investigations” Mr Kibue said.

Mr Wainaina said his wife woke up earlier than him and made breakfast, put it on the table and went away.

“When I woke up, she was still there but she went away when I was still in the bathroom. When I finished dressing and I went to pick the rifle from the safe, I could not find it,” Mr Wainaina said.

He said after he discovered the firearm was missing, he called his wife but she did not pick the phone and instead wrote him a message telling him that she had gone away and that she had left their two children in his care.

“After the message, she switched off the phone and it has remained off since then,” Mr Wainaina told NairobiNews.

He denied having had any kind of altercation with his wife, but said that she had been suffering from depression.

Elsewhere in Olepolos, police are investigating the murder of a 26 year old lady whose body was found dumped at Kanhawa road.

The deceased had stab wounds on the left side of her chest and police suspect that she might have been murdered before her body was dumped there.

In Kayole detectives are looking for a 55 year old man suspected to have murdered his 45 year old girlfriend in Soweto slums before escaping.
