Woman hacked to death after stabbing husband

Angry residents killed a woman who stabbed and seriously wounded her husband in Kirinyaga County.

Ms Mercy Ngangi was slashed to death on Friday night and her body set on fire at Mururi market.

The man had confronted his wife in their rental house, accusing her of being unfaithful. As the quarrel  degenerated into a fight, the woman took a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband in the neck.

However, the man, identified only as only Peter, raised the alarm, attracting neighbours who rushed him to Kimbimbi Sub-County Hospital in a critical condition.

As news of the attack spread, the residents proceeded to the woman’s house baying for her blood but she escaped, with the mob in hot pursuit.

The residents cornered her and set upon her with pangas. Her pleas for mercy fell on deaf ears. Her body was then dragged to a nearby maize farm and burnt.

Area Assistant Chief Naftali Ndege said he was at home when he received a report that the residents were pursuing a woman whom they accused of attacking her husband.

“I immediately left for the scene but sadly I found the woman had been hacked to death,” he said.

Mr Ndege said he knew the woman well because she kept quarreling with her husband.

“I advised the couple to live peacefully but they never took heed,” he said.
