Woman in five star hotel saga clears huge bill


The lady who was arrested and charged in court last month for failing to pay her bills at a five-star hotel in Nairobi has finally settled the bills totalling Sh230, 000.

Laura Oyier paid the paid the money to the Intercontinental Hotel on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Radio presenter Gidi Gidi posted photos of himself and Ms Oyier on their way to the hotel.

Other photos that the presenter posted were of Ms Oyier after she cleared the bill and another of the two sharing a meal at Java House.

He captioned the photos in part, “Radio Africa paid the bill… despite her woes she’s an amazing woman.”

However, in an interview with NTV’s Larry Madowo on the talk show The Trend, Ms Oyier said Caroline Mutoko, who works at Radio Africa had given her a Sh250, 000 cheque.

She also hinted that she will be joining the media house as a radio presenter for one of their stations.

Ms Oyier, who is also a musician, gave a performance during the show and even revealed that she has a music show dubbed ‘The Laura Show.’

She told viewers to expect live performances from her in events as part of her music career.

The 27-year-old checked into the five-star hotel as a guest on January 27 and stayed on until February 16, 2015.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Alice Njeru, told the magistrate that the accused enjoyed various services during her 21-day stay at the high-cost hotel.

The prosecution alleges that the accused used to sneak out of the hotel and return in the wee hours of the morning without being noticed by the staff at the reception.

Ms Oyier was ordered to deposit a cash bail of Sh100, 000 pending determination of the case, the trial is set to commence on April 15.
