Woman finds her niche by importing chic fittings

Last year, Jackie Wairimu Kossman thought outside the box and started importing selected German products for the home that would revolutionise décor and safety.

Her company, Comfort Homes Limited imports German kitchens which she says are unique in design and quality.

“I import luxurious kitchens on order. They cost between Sh150,000 and Sh400,000 depending on design and whether they are fitted with electronics or not,” said Kossman in her office in Westlands.

An imported kitchen comes fitted with client specifications of electronics such as German brands of gas cookers and their chimneys, dish washers, microwaves and refrigerators.

Since she started, the 30-year-old has supplied kitchens to companies building high-end homes like Merilyn Apartments in Lavington and Runda.

Emily Wanjiru, coordinator of sales and marketing said the kitchens come in varied designs; the wall plan, L-plan, U- plan and the 4-wall plan.

Kossman’s firm also provides security inventions such as fire detectors that go for Sh20,000. The detector warns the user of the presence of smoke or gas before there is a full blown fire.

Kossman also sells Intercom systems, both audio and visual at a cost of Sh40,000 and security sensors for doors and windows.

In addition to this, she also sells solar powered garden lights. An average garden solar lamp goes for Sh5,000 while the stone garden solar light — a fake granite rock that has lighting fixed inside — goes for Sh6,000. They both have adhesive films for sensor purposes and alarm units as well.

Kossman plans to open an even bigger office where she can display her products and focus on the security technology which has no competition.

“I believe in taking risks for greater achievements. I have a passion in what I do and I have learnt a lot from my past business,” she said.
