Winless run giving Ingwe coach sleepless nights

AFC Leopards coach Ivan Minnaert has admitted that he is concerned by the club’s recent below par returns, a situation he attributes to a lack of experience within his squad.

After a splendid start to his tenure at the den following his arrival in March, the Belgian coach has recently overseen three winless fixtures in the league and KPL Top Eight tournament.

As a result, Ingwe have slipped four places to fifth on the Kenyan Premier League standings with 18 points from 11 rounds of matches.

Leopards trail Mathare United, Tusker, Posta Rangers and Ulinzi Stars on the log in that order.

“We have made some errors and I am concerned. Like the mistake with (Solomon) Nasio for the first goal (during the 3-2 loss to Ulinzi on Saturday). The other goals we conceded because of a lack of experience and we are already looking to improve,” said Minnaert.

WINLESS RUN

At the same time, Leopards chairman Matthews Opwora has likewise expressed his concern over the club’s winless run.

Opwora, who is serving on a caretaker basis pending the club’s forthcoming elections, has also called for the club’s Electoral Board to organize elections immediately.

“Our performances are suddenly way below par with all these defeats. We are also conceding very many goals. The technical bench needs to sort out these issues fast,” Opwora said.

Other contenders for the top seat at the club include former Allan Chairmen Allan Kasavuli and Julius Ochiel, former Football Kenya Federation Deputy President Robert Asembo, current co-chairman Dan Mule, and newcomer Anthony Lung’aho.

The club’s elections are long overdue, having been delayed by a wave of wrangles and bickering following Kasavuli’s resignation. Leopards will next face high flying Rangers FC in a league match in Nairobi on Sunday.
