Williamson confident of Stars’ progress in Chan qualifiers

Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson remains confident that his charges can go past Ethiopia’s Walya Antelopes and make a maiden appearance at the Chan finals to be hosted by Rwanda next year.

Stars on Sunday evening paired against Ethiopia in a draw conducted at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Speaking to the Daily Nation Sport o Monday, the 53 year old coach maintained that his men have what it takes to outsmart the Ethiopians.

The competition is strictly reserved for locally based players who feature in the respective domestic leagues of their countries.

“We have good locally based players and we have building a side for this competition. We are fully focused on the games,” Williamson said.

“We already have a lot of young players and it’s important that we nurture them to realize their full potential,” the former Uganda Cranes coach added.

The first leg of the Chan qualifiers will be played in June 19-21 while the corresponding fixtures will be held on July 3-5.
