Why ODM will hand Kidero direct nomination


Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will on Monday hand a nomination certificate  to Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero as an unopposed candidate for the August elections.

This is after no party cme out to challenge Dr Kidero in the nominations.

ODM has already compiled the list of aspirants who applied to vie for the various elective seats across the country. The list has been presented to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission  (IEBC).

According to the party, its National Elections Board is now focused on the party primaries set to begin on Friday.

AUTOMATIC NOMINATION

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale said aspirants with no challengers qualifying for automatic nomination.

“It is with this background that the NEB has elected Monday as the day for the presentation of nomination certificates to unopposed aspirants,” he said.

The event will be held at the Bomas of Kenya

The announcement came a day after a new opinion poll placed Governor Kidero ahead of his Jubilee opponents if elections were to be held.

According to the opinion poll, Dr Kidero has 46 per cent support, while his closest challenger is Peter Kenneth with 20 per cent support.

Senator Mike Sonko is third with 16 per cent, with Bishop Margaret Wanjiru coming fourth with two per cent ahead of Johnson Sakaja and Dennis Waweru who get one per cent each.

Eleven per cent of potential voters remain undecided.
