Kenyans on social have called for the arrest of Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama for the latest inflammatory remarks attributed to him.

This follows the emergence of an audio clip in which a voice attributed to Mr Muthama is heard threatening Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Halakhe Waqo.

In the audio posted on Twitter by State House Director of Digital Communications, Dennis Itumbi, Muthama is allegedly heard saying:

“I’m going to push you like you’ve never seen Halakhe Waqo. Wewe haujui Muthama ni nani, wewe ni kuweke magumi nikutandike sawa sawa, watu wakufahamu wewe ni nani. Sitakupigia Machakos, nitakulima sawasawa kama shamba linapandwa”

The clip sparked an immediate outrage from Kenyan on Twitter who were unforgiving in the hashtag #ArrestMuthamaNow which trended for the better part of Wednesday.

#ARRESTMUTHAMANOW

Many of those who expressed their views, including Itumbi, felt that the controversial senator, who has a case in a court for similar public utterances, has gone too far and should therefore be arrested.

“By threatening a public official who is fighting corruption as EACC CEO, Senator Hon. Muthama violates his oath of office #ArrestMuthamaNow,” Itumbi tweeted.

Another Twitter user, Tsar Njoroge, wrote: “We are preaching peace he is preaching hate #ArrestMuthamaNow,” while Githingi Wa Macharia simply said, “Ashikwe #ArrestMuthamaNow.”

Rose Cherop asked: “Why do we want this country to go back to the violence of 2007? Our leaders should watch what they say in public #ArrestMuthamaNow.”
