Were’s AmaZulu relegated from SA’s top league

Kenya international Paul Were’s club AmaZulu were on Saturday relegated from South Africa’s Premier Soccer League, after a 2-1 loss to Maritzburg United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The result means that Were, formerly of AFC Leopards and Tusker FC in the Kenyan Premier League, is almost certain to be playing in the second tier National First Division of South Africa next season.

The Durban based team finished the 2014/2015 league season in bottom place, with a paltry 27 points – three less than the number of matches the side took part in.

STARTING ELEVEN

To cap it all, Steve Barker’s side conceded 44 league goals in 30 games during the course of the season, the second highest number conceded by any of the 16 teams, and 13 more than the team scored. Kaizer Chiefs are the newly crowned South African champions.

This outcome could also cast some doubt on the future of the talented 24 year old left footed winger, who is yet to secure a permanent place in the team’s starting eleven.

Were however seems to have settled in Durban, and even recently posted on Instagram a picture of himself and his Kenyan partner enjoying some time out at the beach.
