Wanyama warned to expect spells on the sidelines by Southampton coach

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has been warned to expect a spell on the sidelines by his club coach Ronald Koemen, if he tries to engineer a move away from the club.

Wanyama remains on the wish list of some of the top clubs in England according to several media reports. Close family sources of the player in Nairobi also insist the player isn’t keen to renew his contract with Southampton which expires in 18 months’ time.

Dutch coach Koemen while declaring neither Wanyama nor his teammate Saidio Mane will leave during this January transfer window, also warned either player from trying out any antics to achieve a move.

SENDING OFF

“If there is a player thinking if his behavior is not good that makes it easier for the player (to secure a transfer) then I’ll put the player in the stands until the end of their contract. Because in my opinion that’s not the way you have to do your job as a football player,” Koemen a former Dutch international said.

Mane was left on the bench during the team’s 1-0 loss to Norwich in the EPL after reportedly arriving late for the pre-match meeting. During the same match, Wanyama was criticized by Koemen for a sending off. The former Celtic player has since apologized for the incident.

At the end of last season, Wanyama reportedly refused to play for Southampton until the possibility of securing a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur was fully explored although he eventually remained at the club.
