Wanyama pushes for Spurs move

Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama could report late for national team duty in order to push a move from Southampton to Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League, Nairobi News understands.

But Wanyama’s current club Southampton remain adamant that the midfielder will remain at St Marys although Spurs are reported to be preparing a fresh bid of a higher amount and two fringe players.

This development sets the stage for a possible dramatic deadline day transfer on Tuesday, during which Wanyama will remain in England to await the outcome of the dea.

AFCON QUALIFIER

In that scenario, Wanyama will only be able to link up with the national team later in the week in preparation for next weekend’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia in Nairobi.

Initially, Wanyama had earlier planned to leave for Nairobi on Sunday evening.

“Victor has had his head turned by the offer to join Tottenham especially now that there is no interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. He believes Tottenham is a step up and wants a move,” a source close to the player told Nairobi News.

Wanyama has two years remaining on his contract with Southampton but a move to Tottenham is expected to almost double his current Sh 8 million weekly salary.
