Kirinyaga county now has its own version of Sonko Rescue Team, a rag tag team that offers free services to residents including provision of water, healthcare and ambulance services.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici on Sunday launched her rescue team that she has named Ngirici and Sons Rescue Team.

It will hire young men who will be dressed in red overalls that resemble the Sonko Rescue Team.

The politician became a household name in central region because of her flashy campaigns that were characterised by helicopters and luxury vehicles.

Wangui was in Governor Ann Waiguru’s camp, but raised eyebrows when she missed her friend’s swearing-in attended by DP William Ruto . There were claims that Waiguru had plans to humiliate her.

Wangui told Nation at the time that she had information that Waiguru’s supporters had been instructed to boo her during the swearing-in.
