Volleyball queen Agala throws surprise bash for dad

Kenyan volleyball star, Brackides Agala, on Saturday threw big surprise party for her who recently retired from civil service.

Interestingly, Agala should have been celebrating her 31st birthday on the same day, but instead chose to treat her family members at her home in Nairobi on the account of her father’s achievement.

Agala, who turns out for French club, Chamalieres, is currently in the country for holiday following the end of the European volleyball league season.

Dozens of selected family members and friends, including Agala’s teammates, attended the bash.

Agala’s dad, who until recently worked for the Central Bank of Kenya, was taken by surprise when several “congratulations”, “thank you” cards, alongside gifts were pulled from under the table by the guests.

“Family is my biggest treasure and dad is one of my closest friends and confidant. I just had to do this for him,” Agala told Nairobi News.

Indeed, Agala’s father’s closeness to his daughter is one of the worst kept secrets.

Some years ago, the bespectacled man came close to blows with a Kenya Volleyball Federation official in a curious incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport.

It so happened that Agala had impressed several clubs in Japan while on national team duty, some of which asked for her to remain behind and train with them.

Unknown to this fact, Agala’s father turned up at the airport upon the team’s arrival only to discover that her daughter was not among the returning players. What followed was a confrontation between the enraged father and the said KVF official.

Meanwhile, Agala is expected to feature prominently in the national women volleyball team’s bid to qualify for the Rio Olympics, during the World Olympics qualification tournament next week in Puerto Rico.

Thereafter, Agala and her teammates will head to Argentina to compete at the World Group 2 Grand Prix Games.
