Volleyball hottie Janet Wanja hints at early retirement
Kenyan star volleyball player Janet Wanja has hinted at calling it quits in the near future.
In an exclusive interview with the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), the experienced setter, who is currently part of the Kenya Pipeline squad seeking continental honours in Tunisia, also revealed that she will be looking to serve the game in another capacity when she quits.
“When I retire from active playing, I want to be a referee,” said Wanja.
There have been murmurs in the local volleyball fraternity that this could be Wanja’s last season as an active player.
HER REPLACEMENT
Her club Kenya Pipeline was reported to actively be pursuing the signature of Kenya Prisons setter Jane Wacu as her replacement.
Wanja has enjoyed a successful career as a volleyball player both at club level and on the international front.
She turned out for for Kenya Commercial Bank, Al-Shabaab VC in Dubai, Rwanda’s Patriotic Army and now Kenya Pipeline.
The 30 year old, whose younger sibling Kevin Kimani is also an international footballer based in Saudi Arabia, has on two separate occasions been crowned the continent’s best player.
She won an international crown, the Group 3 FIVB Grand Prix title, in Australia three years ago.
