April 14th, 2014 1 min read

Greenhill Investment Ltd, the developer of Village Market and Tribe Hotel has embarked on an expansion plan of the mall.

Scheduled to start next month, the project will involve construction of a 187-room hotel complemented by a conference hall with a capacity to host 500 people.

Besides, the mall is set to increase retail stores by 75, build a new recreation centre and add two basement level parking spaces.

Speaking during the launch of the project, one of The Village Market directors Sanjay Shah said Kenya was on the verge of an economic renaissance occasioned by the discovery of significant resources, the growth of technology and mobile sectors, and expansion of the industrial base.

With this growth, the appetite for consumer goods, luxury products and entertainment options would also rise and their vision was to grow with Kenya.

Another director said there was need to build infrastructure to support the opportunity that the market presented.

“We realise that the next evolution in tourism for Kenya will be in meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions — there is massive potential for Kenya to develop this sector and become a regional hub for conferencing,” said Hamed Ehsani.

Designed by Symbion Architects, the project which will be undertaken by Seyani Brothers Company will cost Sh3.8 billion. The retail and restaurant outlet are expected to be complete by the end of 2015.

Construction for the hotel and the conference facility is scheduled to begin mid of 2016.

This development comes the mall completed renovation on the food court and the expansion of the Nakumatt supermarket which now features 150 additional parking slots and 20 retail outlets.
