Police in Bungoma are investigating a ‘bizarre’ case in which four members of the Nyumba Kumi initiative were shot, hacked and decapitated.

The Sunday night incident at Saria, Cheptais sub-county has left villagers in shock.

According to the police, a report was made at Kipsigon Police Station on Monday by members of the public about the Sunday attacks.

The report indicated that 10 armed men raided houses and hacked people at around 10 pm.

One of the attackers had an AK 47 riffle while his accomplices carried crude weapons.

The vigilantes went to four different homesteads.

In the first attack, they shot a 32 year-old man before beheading him and taking away his severed head.

They then went to another homestead and shot the head of the house dead.

Unperturbed, they moved to a neighbour’s house and shot him, before finally killing another Nyumba Kumi member.

The gang also shot and killed a total of ten cows.

Police collected 10 spent cartridges at the scene.

The bodies of the victims have been taken to Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police are combing the area.
