Victor Wanyama resumes training after hamstring setback

Victor Wanyama on Monday confirmed to Nairobi News he is “feeling much better”, moments after his club confirmed the player’s return to training following a month’s absence with a hamstring injury.

The Harambee Stars captain has been out of action for his English based side since pulling his hamstring during a domestic Cup match against Sheffield United in January.

But the former Celtic anchor man is well on the comeback trail as confirmed by his club’s official website, which made the announcement while posting pictures of the midfielder jogging alongside his team mates.

BUILD UP FITNESS

“I am feeling much better and obviously happier that the medical team has given me a thumbs up to go back to work. The immediate task now is to build up fitness. ” the player told Nairobi News from his base in England.

This weekend’s league assignment for Ronald Koemen’s side is likely to come soon enough for Wanyama, who could make his formal return to first team duty in 10 days time.

Southampton have posted less assured results in the Kenyan’s absence, with the club losing out on third position in the league to Manchester United following a shock defeat to Swansea at home on Sunday.

Another defeat to Sheffield United cost the team a place in the semi finals of the Carling Cup.
