Vehicles in illegal PSV business in Nairobi impounded

Police in Nairobi busted a transport cartel on Saturday morning, consisting tens of private vehicles ferrying passengers and goods.

An unspecified number of arrests were also enforced during the four hour operation that was conducted by senior traffic officers, mainly within the city’s CBD.

“We have several unlicensed vehicles operating as public service vehicles around the country and especially in Nairobi. This is a risky venture, thus we are urging the public not to board them,” one of the officers told Nairobi News.

Some of the vehicles, especially six and eight-seaters operate in long distance routes,  such as the Kisumu and Mombasa routes, where they charge subsidized fares.

Police also suspect the cars could be transporting illegal brews from upcountry to the major cities and towns.

Investigations are ongoing to unearth how the vehicles manage to pass through major police patrols and road blocks within the city and major highways.
