USIU show fellow comrades how to demonstrate and Twitter can’t cope
United States International University – Africa (USIU-A) is considered as one of the best universities in Kenya, but sometimes the students are often taunted for “not being Kenya enough.”
However, on Wednesday, the institution shut its doors as the students protested along the busy Thika Superhighway against the alleged grabbing of a 20-acre piece of land belonging to the university.
Unlike their counterparts from public universities who are known for violent demos, often marred by destruction of property, the USIU demo remained peaceful as the students marched from the main campus in Roysambu to Muthaiga Police Station where they presented their petition.
The demo didn’t go unnoticed though as Kenyans on Twitter reacted by comparing the conduct of USIU students with their comrades from public universities, notably the University of Nairobi, which is infamous for violent street protests.
Several meme’s comparing the USIU demos with those of UoN trended the whole of Wednesday and Thursday morning.
