University of Nairobi students on holiday to stay home longer

The University of Nairobi has postponed the opening dates for students who are on long holidays

The institution made the announcement in an advertisement carried in the dailies on Thursday.

The affected students  include regular fourth year students in the colleges of agriculture, architecture, education, humanities and biological and physical sciences.

Others include second years and continuing first years in the college of humanities and social sciences, along with fourth years pursuing Bachelors of Pharmacy, Dental Sciences and Science (Nursing).

The institution was closed indefinitely after days of students unrest over the Students Organisation of Nairobi University (Sonu) elections that saw Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino re-elected as chairman.

During the riots, distraught students destroyed property of unknown value including the Sonu offices and two hostels.

A video taken during the riots showed police brutally assaulting students.
