University students arrested over kidnap of 12 year-old in Nairobi

Police on Saturday arrested two university students on allegations of kidnapping and torturing a 12 year-old who went missing seven days ago.

The students, Levis Oduor and Edwin Otieno, from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (Jkuat) were arrested in a residential area in Juja where they had hidden the 12-year old victim.

One of the arrested students is a cousin of the boy and police believe he and his accomplices abducted the boy in Nairobi West before hiding him in the rented hostel.

Nairobi DCI boss Nicholas Kamwende said  the suspects had called the victim’s parents and demanded a Sh500,000 ransom for the boy to be returned.

“Unfortunately the boy knew the kidnappers and wondered why they were beating him while giving him a phone to communicate with the parents. They would ferry their victim between Juja and another house in Kawangware, from where they would make most of the calls, before taking the boy back to the hostel,” said Mr Kamande.

The boy was allegedly tortured by the suspects and was found with wounds on his stomach and back.

The victim has been admitted at Nairobi Hospital.
