University student stabs man to death over love affair
A quarrel over a girlfriend between a Moi University student and another man ended tragically after the student stabbed his rival to death in an Eldoret town estate.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at Mwanzo estate where the student resides.
Cries of sorrow from residents filled the air when news of the fatal stabbing reached neighbours in the estate.
An eye witness said the two seemed intoxicated and picked a quarrel when they reached the gate leading to the student’s house.
The witness said the student rushed into the house and emerged with a kitchen knife, which he used to stab the deceased on the chest severally. He died instantly.
Angry residents took the law into their hands and beat up the student and he was only rescued from imminent death by police officer who rushed to the scene after being alerted.
Eldoret West police boss, Smollest Munyanzi, confirmed the incident and said the student is being held at Eldoret Police station and will be arraigned in court once the investigations are complete.
The body of the deceased was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for a post-mortem.
