University student faces murder charge

A university student was on Tuesday remanded pending investigations over the murder of her lover.

Teresia Roselyne Mburu, a fourth year student at Mount Kenya University, appeared before Thika resident magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo but was not formally charged.

She is suspected to have stabbed to death her lover Zackary Ndwiga Njangai at her residence in Runda estate in Thika town on December 24.

The investigating officer Michael Muindu applied for more time to complete investigations into Mr Njangai’s death.

He told the court that the suspect was arrested on the same day she allegedly killed the man who was a mechanic.

OBJECT BOND

Mr Muindu opposed the suspect’s application for bond, saying she was likely to interfere with witnesses if released at the moment.

“Police also need more time to conduct forensic analysis and to record statements from witnesses,” the officer said and requested to be given 14 more days.

Lawyer Mbiyu Kamau, who appeared for Ms Mburu, did not object to the application but prayed that police hasten investigations for justice to be done.

The case will be mentioned on January 12.

Brian Seda held brief for the family of the deceased while Chief Inspector Nancy Muthuri leads the prosecution.
