Unep employee in battering case caught up in love triangle
Details have emerged of a love triangle at the centre of which is an employee of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) who has been on the news for allegedly assaulted his Kenyan ex-lover.
Alphonse Kambu, a legal officer at the United Nations Environment Programme headquarters in Gigiri, Nairobi is said to be involved with yet another Kenyan woman who is currently pregnant.
Ms Ruth Gakii, the woman who has accused Mr Kambu of assault, on Thursday told Nairobi News that her assailant’s current girlfriend has been sending her abusive text messages.
Ms Gakii said she got the latest text message from the other woman on Wednesday night. She says in the message the woman told her that Mr Kambu would not be arrested no matter what she (Gakii) tells police.
Ms Gakii said her lover’s girlfriend has in the past sent her messages stating that she would eventually get married to Mr Kambu and raise their (Kambu and Gakii) son together.

“She has been a nuisance. She always texts me even in the middle of the night accusing me of not letting go of her man yet the only conversation we have with him is about our son,” narrated Ms Gakii.
Mr Kambu, a Papua New Guinea national, and Ms Gakii have been entangled in a court battle over child custody. The court recently ruled in Ms Gakii’s favour and ordered Mr Kambu to provide child support.
“Since the ruling was made, he has been paying our rent and our son’s school fees but he has never bought food,” said Ms Gakii.
The 26-year-old mother runs an online business which deals with women’s beauty products. She says her income from the business is unstable.
Although Ms Gakii reported the matter at Kiamumbi Police Station and sought treatment at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Mr Kambu has not been arrested four days after the alleged assault.
The police have however said that investigations are ongoing on the matter and as they await a P3 form from the hospital.
