Ulinzi beat to Mathare to go second on the table

Former Kenyan Premier League champions Ulinzi Stars on Friday came from a goal down to beat Mathare United 2-1 at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani.

The result propelled the soldiers to second place on the table with 30 points from 16 games.

Mathare went ahead in the fourth minute of the match through Eric Johanna who scored an easy goal after being teed up by new signing Ismail Dunga.

The soldiers however pulled level when striker Kevin Amwayi sent a thunderous shot past goalkeeper Peter Odhiambo in the 40th minute.

A defensive blunder in the 71st minute proved costly for Mathare as they fell behind courtesy of an opportunistic strike by John Nairuka.

Coach Robert Matano lauded his men for their fighting spirit saying the result is great motivation ahead of their next match against ten-time champions Tusker.

“I am glad we have managed to get the three points. That was good recovery and we now shift focus to the next match,” Matano said.
