Uhuru rubbishes Babu’s call for Obama to visit varsity

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday put-off student leader Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino over a letter he wrote that demanded for President Barack Obama to give a public lecture at the University of Nairobi during his visit.

The student leader, who rushed to greet the head of state after he had officially opened the Japan-Kenya Conference on Infrastructure in Nairobi, was told to shelve his demand and instead turn up for a State House dinner to be hosted for President Obama.

President Kenyatta spoke to Babu as he was leaving the conference hall of Serena hotel and told him, “Wachana na hii mambo ya barua. President Obama will be free to visit any institution he wishes to. Lakini wewe kuja State House dinner.”

The said letter has been trending on social media platforms.

It was allegedly to have been written by the chairman of the Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) and addressed to the US ambassador.

In the letter, Babu Owino claimed that students at the university have threatened to commit suicide and urinate on a tree that President Obama planted at the institution during his previous visit to Kenya should the American president not visit the university.

President Obama is scheduled to visit Kenya for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit that will kick off Friday next week in Nairobi.
