Uhuru nominates Joseph Boinet as new Inspector General


President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Joseph Kipchirchir Boinet as the new Inspector General of Police.

At the same time, former IG David Kimaiyo has been appointed as Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) chairman.

The President has also appointed Deputy Inspector General Samuel Arachi as the acting Inspector General pending the vetting and approval of  Mr Boinet by Parliament.

The President made the announcement on Wednesday at State House.

“The President shall, within fourteen days after a vacancy occurs in the office of the Inspector-General, nominate a person for appointment as an Inspector-General and submit the name of the nominee to the National Assembly,” the new Security Law states.

Parliament will resume its sittings in January 2015.

Grace Kaindi will remain as the Deputy Inspector General.
