Ugandans are selfish with their airplay, says Bahati

Gospel artist Kevin Bahati on Friday slammed Ugandans for being too selfish and not giving airplay to other East African artists.

The Barua hit maker, who was speaking during an interview at Kiss 100’s Big Breakfast show, said during his recent gospel tour, he came face to face with the bitter truth that Uganda gives virtually all its airplay to local artists.

The radio presenter who interviewed Bahati, however, described Uganda’s action as self-love and called upon Kenyan media to follow suite and dedicate its airplay to local artists.

Bahati, who had been on a gospel tour in the United States before heading to Uganda, stated that he was glad his new hit Kuchi Kuchi has received airplay in Kenya despite the gospel/secular controversy.

“You know when I was doing that hit with Wyre and Rabbit, I was doing it for God and you will be surprised to know that the two artists actually wrote their stanzas after hearing the chorus and it was only during the recording that they heard the whole song,” said the soft spoken gospel artist.

The singer has been out of the country for his gospel tour. He thanked his fans for supporting his ministry and urged those badmouthing the new hit to stop being judgmental.

LOVE FOR CHILDREN

Bahati’s soft heart for children has seen him adopt three from his former home, the ABC Children’s’ Home, and it was his love for children that led to an on air prank by Kiss 100.

The breakfast show hosts invited a colleague who is unknown to Bahati and had her play a role of a 16-year-old who was seeking adoption.

Bahati lamented how he would have loved to adopt her but the law does not allow him to adopt a female teenager.

He even offered to take her for coffee instead but the radio hosts told him the lady was a Radio Africa Group employee.

Bahati admitted to have liked the lady and even asked the radio hosts to give him her contacts.

The Barua hitmaker has had a decorated music career as he is a two time winner of the prestigious Groove Awards in the Male Artist of the year category 2014 and 2015.

The artists’ works were recognized just a few months after he started his career and since then he has been releasing a series of hits.
