Ugandan socialite Bad Black released after four years in jail

A Ugandan socialite left Luzira Prison on Monday morning after completing a four year jail term for conning her white lover of Ushs 11 billion (about Sh350 million).

In a case that courted international headlines, Shanita Namuyimbwa, aka Bad Black, was convicted by a Uganda court of fraud alongside her colleague and suspected Ugandan lover Meddie Ssentongo in 2012.

Mr Ssentongo was released in 2013 after serving a 18-month sentence at the same facility in Kampala.

The duo was found guilty of embezzling the funds from Daveshen Company, owned by  Bad Black’s ex fiancee David Greenhalgh.

In her defence, Black indicated that she had a right to the funds as a co-director of the company.

She also suggested she withdrew and used most of the funds to maintain a child she claimed to have had with Mr Greenhaugh.

Some of the funds were also “payments for the services” she offered the mzungu lover, she told the court.

The court however made no ruling as to whether the guilty duo was to return the stolen funds.

Meanwhile, Bad Black has already announced she will host a mammoth “release bash” at the Club Guvnor in Kampala on Wednesday night.

Mr Greenhalgh was last week detained after he allegedly issued a false cheque worth Ush 335 million to a city businessman
