Ugandan scholar strips naked to protest office lock-out

Controversial Ugandan scholar Dr Stella Nyanzi has made good her threat and stripped naked outside the office of the Executive Director of Makerere Institute of Social Research.

Dr Nyanzi, famous for her threats and antics during Uganda’s recent general elections, protested the decision by the institute to vacate her from the office to make space for a new program.

In her protest video filmed while stark naked, Dr Nyanzi accuses the director Mahmood Mamdani of being a dictator.

‘UGLY PADLOCK’

“Mahmood Mamdani locked me out of my office, even after the Deputy Vice Chancellor refused him to continue with evicting me. I have found his ugly padlock barring my access to my office. This is the third day,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Monday.

Dr Nyanzi had posted updates on the lock-out since Saturday.

On Monday morning, she threatened to strip naked in three hours if her office was still under lock. She eventually made good of the threat and posted a video of her nude protest.

“I have thrown my clothes outside Mamdani’s office. I am naked as I cry out for my office,” she wrote.

The director of the institute eventually budged and allowed Dr Nyanzi access to the office.

During the general elections, Dr Nyanzi, a die-hard supporter of opposition leader Kizza Besigye, had vowed to cut off her private organs if the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni won.

Though she later stated that her words were figurative language many have deemed her as able to make good her threats.

Her use of sexual language in protests is evident. During her latest protest, she wrote a post of how sex can open doors for women, accusing the director of allocating public space to his filmmaker wife’s film business.

Director Mamdani is married to film producer Mira Nair who was behind Lupita Nyong’o’s Queen of Katwe movie that was shot in Kampala.
