Ugandan artistes Radio and Weasel in trouble over witchcraft claims

In a classic case of friends turned foes, a public spat involving two popular Ugandan musicians and their former manager has now spilled over to the courts.

This past week, the High Court in Kampala issued criminal summons ordering the duet of Moses Ssekibogo aka Mowzey Radio and Doughlas Mayanja aka Weasel to file their defence on allegations that they defamed their former manager and producer Jeff Kiwanuka.

Through his lawyers of Muwema and company advocates, Jeff Kiwanuka commonly known as Kiwa wants the court to order the duo to pay him damages for allegedly uploading a video on their official Facebook page accusing him of practicing witchcraft in June this year.

Kiwa also wants court orders permanently barring the two from uttering any such defamatory statements against him.

The court’s deputy Registrar Alex Ajiji has given the two musicians up to 15 days to file their defence.

Radio and Weasel have in the past released a number of songs such as Zuena, Bread and Butter, and Nakudata that are very popular in Kenya. All the three songs were produced by Kiwanuka.
