Uber has announced the launch of its latest product, uberBODA for boda boda commuters in Nairobi using the Uber app.

The latest venture will add to the company’s growing number of product options in Kenya, which include uberCHAPCHAP, uberX, uberSELECT and uberPOA.

The company’s launch of uberBODA in Nairobi follows a recent launch of uberBODA in Kampala, Uganda in March this year.

On his recent visit to Nairobi, Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Vice President for Uber in Europe Middle East and Africa said that they were excited about the launch of uberBODA in Nairobi.

ROAD SAFETY

“While Uber has grown into a global brand, we understand the importance of building technology to meet the needs of the local market. We will continue to invest our technology in products like uberBODA that seek to support local businesses while providing another safe, reliable and convenient choice for passengers,” said Gore-Coty.

Users of uberBODA will be able to determine whether others have had a good experience with the uberBODA driver and they will be able to contact each other via the app if there is any confusion around pick-up details.

All uberBODA rider-partners will also undergo a strict screening process and will be required to have all relevant permits in order to operate on the Uber app.

REQUESTING RIDE

The riders will be provided with a reflective jacket as well as a helmet for both the passenger and driver.

In addition, as of the 21 December 2018, passengers and drivers will benefit from Injury Protection provided by UAP-Old Mutual to ensure they have more peace of mind when using uberBODA.

To request a ride with uberBODA, passenger simply need to open the Uber app and select uberBODA.

uberBODA has a base fare of Sh55, minimum fare of Sh60 and Sh14 per KM. Passengers can access uberBODA in all neighbourhoods of Nairobi except within the CBD.

Their entry in the market comes months after another ride-sharing firm Taxify introduced boda-boda service in the city.
