UB40 Tribute band thrills Kenyan reggae fans

UB40 tribute band, Rats in the Kitchen, performed to a sold-out crowd on Saturday night at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The British reggae group treated the crowd to a night of feel good music on their first tour of Africa. To many lovers of UB40 music, this was as close to the real UB40 as they could get.

The reincarnation of UB40 that treated fans of various ages and races to a thoroughly entertaining two-hour set on Saturday had something to prove.

RED RED WINE

Fronting a 7-piece awash with full horn section, the group, dressed all in black, was already in full groove mode as they made their way on stage. Drawing from their long line of hits, they easily brought the crowd to its feet.

Led by lead vocalist, David Drout, the band sounded absolutely magnificent as they coasted playfully through a set list that mixed some Bob Marley songs with classic tunes.

But the song that moved the crowd the most was their rendition of Can’t Help Falling In Love and the night’s final number, Red Red Wine. Both songs helped make UB40 a household name and catapulted them to super-stardom around the world.
