GSU officers arrested for robbing ATM customer of Sh20,000


Two General Service Unit (GSU) officers attached to an embassy at Barclays Plaza, in the city centre, were arrested after they allegedly robbed a man of Sh20,000.

Corporal Lommy Muriithi and Constable Wycliffe Oduor Bwana were arrested on Monday at their residence at the GSU headquarters.

In his statement, the complainant said that he had withdrawn the cash from the ATM before he was confronted by the two officers who were in uniform and armed with AK47 rifles.

The two officers are being held in custody at Central Police station and will appear in court Tuesday.

The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has advised the the head of criminal investigations at Central police station to charge the the two officers with robbery with violence contrary to section 296 (2) of the Penal Code.

Mr Tobiko argued that the two officers were in uniform and armed.

The two will on Tuesday morning escorted to GSU headquarters to sign their interdiction letters before being charged in court.
