Tusker cancels event in wake of stalemate

By DAVID KWALIMWA February 23rd, 2015 1 min read

The management of Tusker FC was last Friday forced to reschedule a key event involving the first team, in the wake of confusion brought about by the bickering between the country’s top football administrators.

Sources indicate top management officials from both the club and its parent company alongside the media were all set to be invited for the function, which was however called off at the last minute.

“The cancellation (of this event) had something to do with the possibility of the country having parallel leagues. The fear was how the function would be played out in the media,” our source revealed.

Besides bankrolling Tusker FC to the tune of millions annually, its parent company East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) also has an agreement in place to sponsor the Kenyan Premier League to the tune of Sh 150 million over three years.

Tusker FC, which has retained its affiliation to the KPL,  drew 1-1 away to Thika United in the opening match of the season at the Thika Stadium on Saturday.
