TSC interdicts four teachers who had sex with pupils
Four teachers in Murang’a County have been interdicted on account of sexually abusing their pupils.
A stern warning has also been issued on teachers with a tendency of indecently involving themselves with students.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA) in his office on Monday, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Murang’a county director Ibrahim Adan said the four teachers were interdicted between September last year and July.
He added that the commission is currently investigating another case where a deputy head teacher in a mixed secondary school has been accused of sexually molesting girls in the school.
Mr. Adan said that most teachers engage sexually with their students despite the act being criminal.
“Protection of pupils and students remain our responsibility as a commission, and we will not relent on punishing teachers who are found to have engaged their students sexually,” he warned.
He regretted that some of the students victimized by the teachers live with their families but are not well educated on how to protect themselves from sexual abuse.
He noted that most parents have delegated the responsibility of sex education to teachers who at times are the molesters.
He also appealed to parents to educate their children on the dangers of engaging in sexual activities at an early age.
The director noted the boy child has been left vulnerable and a target for exploitation, citing a case whereby a male teacher was interdicted after sexually molesting 12 class eight boys in Kahuro sub-county.
