Trials for 15s team to South Africa will be open-Muthee

Trials for the Kenya team to South Africa will be open to all who wish to make the team according to Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Mwangi Muthee.

“We want to give everyone an equal chance, which is why we shall conduct open trials. But the team that will be selected for the assignment is probably the team that will take part in the World Cup qualifiers,” he said.

Kenya was earlier this week confirmed as one of the teams for the 2014 Vodacom Cup in South Africa, and will leave for Cape Town where they will be based in late February.

Muthee added that the tournament will be used to prepare the team for the CAR Cup, which will double up as the 2015 World Cup qualifiers.

“We want to qualify for next year’s World Cup, and we shall face the best from Africa. To beat the best we will have to play the best, which is why we have to take the opportunity presented to us by the South Africa Rugby Union,” he added.

The World Cup qualifiers will be held in Antananarivo, Madagascar between June 26 and July 6.

Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe and hosts Madagascar will battle it out to join South Africa as Africa’s representatives at next year’s World Cup in England and Wales.
