Top Mumias Sugar manager shot dead in his home

A legal officer at the Mumias Sugar Company was shot in the head in an attack by three armed men at his rural home in Matungu constituency on Sunday night.

The officer, identified as Mr Ronald Rubio, was rushed to the St Mary’s mission hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Western region police chief Mr Moses Ombati said the attackers went to Mr Rubio’s home in Ingosi village at 10 pm and shot him at close range.

He said the attackers appeared to have been on a mission to eliminate Mr Rubio.

After shooting their victim, the gangsters dragged him into the house and started harassing his wife, demanding cash from her.

RANSACKED HOUSE

“They ransacked the house, harassed and beat up his wife before they escaped in Mr Rubio’s vehicle which has not been recovered,” said Mr Ombati.

A househelp who had screams from the home alerted neighbors who later called in police.

Mr Ombati said police officers rushed to the home and found Mr Rubio lying in a pool of blood.

“He was rushed to hospital but unfortunately passed on while receiving treatment,” said Mr Ombati.

Police are investigating the motive for the killing and have launched a manhunt for the gang.

“We are exploring all angles to this murder since Mr Rubio had constructed a new house after buying land at the place,” said Mr Ombati.
