Tobiko wants Moses Kuria locked up over hate speech

The director of public prosecutions has asked the court to cancel the bond of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria in a hate speech case.

Mr Keriako Tobiko wants the MP remanded in custody pending the hearing of the criminal case.

Mr Kuria faces three counts of incitement to violence, hate speech and ethnic contempt.

The Law Society of Kenya had brokered talks with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to resolve the dispute, but the deal collapsed after the MP was accused of repeating the offence.

On Thursday, the MP’s lawyer asked for the case to be postponed.

Assistant prosecutor Nicodemus Maingi did not oppose the request.

Magistrate Enock Cherono postponed the case to April 8.
