Tobiko in no rush to decide on Pastor’s Ng’ang’a file

Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has received a police file recommending that Pastor James Ng’ang’a be charged with causing a woman’s death.

However, the prosecutions boss on Tuesday said he was still studying the police report.

Police suspect that Pastor Ng’ang’a was behind the wheel of a Range Rover involved an accident at Tigoni, Limuru, in which Ms Mercy Njeri was killed.

YET TO MAKE DECISION

“I have received the file but I am yet to make a decision on whether to prosecute or not,” said Mr Tobiko in a telephone interview.

The police have said they have a watertight case against the pastor and want him to answer the charge of causing Ms Njeri’s death by dangerous driving when a vehicle she was travelling in collided with his Range Rover.

Police have also recommended that the Neno Evangelism Church preacher be charged with failing to report an accident and driving a vehicle without a valid insurance.

NKAISSERY CONFIDENT

On Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery said he was confident that the DPP would agree with the report that was forwarded to him by the Inspector-General of Police.

The file was sent to the DPP following investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Internal Affairs Unit and the Traffic Department.

Pastor Ng’ang’a has denied that he was driving the Range Rover.

However, eyewitnesses said he was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.

On Wednesday, his lawyers said he was “shocked at the allegations” and he strongly denied having been at the scene of the accident.
