Thika road last killed girl on her first Nairobi visit

The explosion in a bus on  Thika Road, Nairobi, in May  killed a policeman’s daughter who was on her first visit to the city to see her father.

Mr Godana Kere, a constable, on Wednesday told a court that he was taking his colleagues to work in a police car around 5.00pm  when the explosion occurred barely 50 meters away from them.

He was testifying in the trial of a man and his son — Guracho Sar and Sar Degene — who were are charged with terrorism after twin explosions in two  buses killed three passenger on May 4.

The buses were heading to Mwiki in the outskirts of  Nairobi from the city centre.

VISITING

“I had been transferred to Nairobi to work with the Tourist Police and my daughter, Nasibo Abdi,  was visiting us at the Kasarani Police Station from Salgaa, where she worked in a flower farm,” Mr Kere said.

On the day the girl was visiting, he had instructed her to board a Mwiki-bound  bus from the city centre.

Later, he heard an explosion as he drove past the Roysambu roundabout, which is near the scene where one of the buses exploded.

“I saw people running to the direction where the explosion had occurred.

PANICKED

“I panicked because my daughter had called before,  telling me she was in a Mwiki- bound vehicle, coming to my house at the Kasarani Police Station.”

He  stopped the police vehicle he was driving and looked at the scene, where he saw her daughter being rescued into an ambulance.

However, after looking for her in all hospitals where the injured were taken, he found her body at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary.

Hearings resume on November 26.
