Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya has disowned an audio clip trending on social media in which he allegedly threatened an official of the Footballers Welfare Association.

In the 43-second clip, a man identified as Nyamweya threatens Kenya Footballers Welfare Association’s President Innocent Mutiso for organizing a demonstration to the federation’s office on Thursday afternoon.

“Wachana na siasa ya mpira kabisa, wewe. Kuwa professional. I will suspend you na utakwisha milele,” the man identified as Nyamweya is heard saying in the recording.

But the FKF boss, in an interview with Nairobi News on Friday morning, denied threatening Mutiso.

Nyamweya claimed that he last talked to Mutiso “about a month ago”, a conversation in which he admits to warning him not to engage in football politics.

“I last spoke to that boy when I was informed he was going to endorse a particular candidate in the (football) elections. I advised him against engaging in football politics which as you can now see is what he has decided to do,” Nyamweya told Nairobi News.

Mutiso – a former Mathare United and Gor Mahia player – had planned to marshal players to protest the manner  “Harambee Stars players were mistreated and mishandled” during the recent tour of Cape Verde.

The protest, which was to commence at the Wilson Airport and end at FKF’s headquarters, failed to materialize after the group was attacked by goons.

RECORD CLIP

Mutiso has however maintained that he was threatened by Nyamweya and went ahead to narrate to Nairobi News how he had set out to record the clip.

He said he was expecting the call from Nyamweya and had prepared to record the conversation.

“I was expecting his call; we all heard what he said but that will not stop our resolve to ensure players get better conditions,” Mutiso said.

And in a series of posts on his official Facebook page, Mutiso said  the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association is planning a bigger demonstration in Nairobi on Saturday.
