Terror panic grips Athi River EPZ

A man who caused a security scare, forcing police to evacuate employees of Athi River’s Export Processing Zone (EPZ) premises has been arrested.

The man identified as James  Gitau is said to have entered one of the company’s premises at 7:30am and threatened one of the employees who raised alarm forcing the other employees to escape.

Police drawn from Athi River Police Station and Flying Squad entered the EPZ and evacuated other employees before arresting the man.

INTERROGATED

Athi River OCPD, Kizito Mutoro, said the man is being held at the Athi River Police Station where he is being interrogated.

He said workers were scared because there were widespread rumours that three men had been threatening employees that they would be attacked last week at the EPZ.

“Saturday’s happening had nothing to do with terrorism. The suspect we arrested seemed to have been either drunk or mentally challenged but that is subject to confirmation,” Mr Mutoro said.
