Teary Mutua vows to keep fighting poverty in Ukambani

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua broke down in tears last Friday while accusing some leaders who were opposed to his Maendeleo Chap Chap initiative aimed at liberating Ukambani region from poverty.

“I want to tell them no matter how many meetings they hold to undermine me, I will soldier on to liberate our people from the politics of poverty ,”a tearful Mutua said while addressing a gathering at Machako’s people’s park.

Dr Mutua told Nairobi News that no one was born to suffer.

“It is wrong and disheartening for people to continue dying and suffering whereas we have the ability to change their lives. But some leaders are too busy playing selfish politics of poverty. We were not born to suffer,” Dr Mutua told Nairobi News.

He said some of the leaders were telling him to go slow terming their sentiments as retrogressive.

“They are panicking due to the fact that people are now questioning what they have done to uplift their areas despite being in powerful position for decades,”said Mutua.

Governor Mutua becomes the second high profile personality to break down to tears in public.

In 2013, Deputy President William Ruto let tears flow down on his cheeks freely while in church.
